When I was young I used to wonder the science behind this thing, how cats were unable to reach milk placed there and how every other foodstuff was safe there. Today I came across this picture and I couldn’t stop thinking how fast time flies. I remember picking firewood for my mum everytime I did something and was sure I’d be beaten. It actually worked every time. Chasing fireflies at night when my mum was cooking and we couldn’t find a better thing to do and when we did catch one I’d make sure I see it under my mother’s oil lamp to see if it still glowed. Childhoods for most of us were not very perfect but the little things like rolling in mud and rushing barefoot in morning dew makes me miss the younger me. I miss the sibling rivalry between my siblings and the fight on who gets to sit on papas lap. I miss the times my mum would send me to the shops and she’d write a note on the things she needed and told me to keep it in my pocket. Somehow I always lost the money along the way but retained the note and so I would pass by my uncle’s farm to pick firewood so I bargain for a lesser beating from my mum. I remember eating sugar and my mum would always lie that even if she is as far as America she’ll always see me eating her sugar. I actually believed her. Now that I’m older I know she used to notice fingerprints on the sugar in her chinaware sugardish. It may sound like I miss a big chunk of my childhood but truth is I miss a very small part of it which was totally beautiful© Blackgirlpoetry 🌼
